Morning Drift

Drifting off to the Island,

Pushing the tip of IFC off the sky,

The smoke, dredged up from

The consciousness of this city, passed.

The only sound that crackled

Came from the bus TV,

A twenty-something pretty News Reporter

In a light, high tone announced:

“Renminbi drifted higher than the US dollar.”

Syndicate of a great nation, a great people.

“Rain storm warning is in force today.”

The bus drifted into the undersea tunnel---

See---the limpid yellow-tinged wall---

And drifted out----

I resurfaced in smoke.

I groped for my raincoat,

Surfed with the crowd, and drifted off the bus.

Rain, rain pelted down.  Wary

Of the weather, I drifted into the rain.
