Lord of the Flies
Here I’d like to share an interesting side note about the title of Golding’s Lord of the Flies. The published title means Beelzebub (who ranks high in the hell hierarchy) was, in fact, chosen by an editor. Golding’s original title was Strangers from Within – which, in my opinion, well captures the sentiment of the novel and Golding’s message in the text. Students should ask themselves, “Who are these ‘Strangers’?”
